Why in-house design matters on electrical projects

On many electrical projects, design and installation are split between different organisations. The gap between them is where assumptions, delays and variations tend to live.
When the same company designs and installs, the drawings are produced by people who will have to build from them. Cable routes are practical, containment fits, and access for future maintenance is considered because it is the same team's problem later.
It also changes accountability. One contractor owns the installation from first sketch to final certificate, so queries are answered on site rather than passed between a designer and an installer.
For clients, the practical benefit is a single point of contact and a programme that holds together, because the people pricing and planning the work are the people delivering it.
